Grace Community Church Faces Lawsuit for Firing Employees
Faith Facts
- Three maintenance workers claim wrongful termination after raising concerns about asbestos exposure at a church property.
- The workers allege they were dismissed after alerting leaders to unsafe conditions and refusing to continue work without remediation.
- California officials fined the church $1,125 for workplace safety violations linked to asbestos at the site.
Christian stewardship demands that we care for both the physical and spiritual welfare of our community members. Three former employees of Grace Community Church claim they were fired for expressing safety concerns about asbestos at a property intended to become an elementary school.
After reportedly discovering asbestos in flooring, these workers say their initial concerns were dismissed, and they continued to work in hazardous conditions without proper protection until independent testing confirmed the danger.
“In the days that followed, GCC never provided Plaintiffs with results of asbestos testing. GCC took no action to remediate the site,” the lawsuit alleges.
When the employees refused to work further until the asbestos was removed, they say church leaders accused them of spreading falsehoods and pressured them to resign. Failing that, the workers allege they were terminated for speaking out.
“This church is supposed to be the light of the world, and for them to trample on us, our wives, our children, is just a horrible witness,” stated Jose “Tony” Lara.
“They wanted to rush this job to put a bunch of little kids in there for school, and if we hadn’t spoken up, if OSHA hadn’t shut the place down, I bet they’d be in there right now, breathing in God only knows what,” added Chad Pritchett.
Faith calls for accountability and compassion, reminding us that every action reflects our witness to others. As the lawsuit moves forward, believers are urged to pray for wisdom, integrity, and reconciliation so the church can continue its mission faithful to Christ’s teachings.

Austin Removes Cross From City Logo
Faith Facts
- Austin unveiled a new city logo, replacing the historic seal that featured a gold Latin cross and Texas State Capitol silhouette.
- The prior seal, designed in 1916, was based on Stephen F. Austin’s family crest, a foundational figure in Texas history.
- Officials claim the new branding better represents modern Austin and its values, officially launching October 1 across all city communications.
Austin’s decision to remove the cross from its seal marks a shift away from acknowledging the Christian heritage that helped shape Texas.
This change follows years of pressure from some who argue symbols of faith have no place in public emblems, but many see the removal as a dismissal of traditions anchored in Biblical morality.
City Manager T.C. Broadnax presented the new logo, emphasizing unity and modern identity, while noting the cross did not align with what he called the city’s current values.
“For the first time in Austin’s history, we will have a logo to represent the city services and unify us as one organization, one Austin,” Broadnax explained.
The city partnered with design agencies, choosing a logo shaped like an “A” representing hills and rivers rather than faith or heritage.
Some see this move as an attempt to distance public life from Christian principles that have historically guided communities like Austin.
The city seal’s cross once faced court scrutiny, but a judge confirmed it honored the founding family rather than promoting a religion.
Faith-minded Texans recognize that strong communities are built on foundations of faith and freedom, not just modern trends or branding efforts.
Now more than ever, Christians must stand firm in praying for their cities and for leaders to uphold values rooted in Biblical truth.

Faith Under Fire: Attacks on Christians in Nigeria
Faith Facts
- Fulani herdsmen attacked Christian farmers in Bauchi state, leaving one dead and three wounded.
- Hundreds of Christian farmers lost their crops in a series of August attacks, and violent raids expanded into neighboring Plateau state.
- Nigeria remains the deadliest country for Christians, with thousands killed for their faith according to the 2025 World Watch List.
Christian communities in Nigeria’s North-Central Region continue to face grave danger, with renewed attacks leaving families grieving and crops devastated. The violence has prompted church leaders to call for urgent prayer and steadfast faith in God’s justice and peace.
“Therefore at this moment, we solicit that we all go on our knees for prayers to our loving God to bring this conflict to a swift end for the betterment of our land and people.”
Community leaders have condemned the brutal attacks and urged calm, recognizing that resilience and faith must anchor them through these trials. New military efforts, now under Operation Enduring Peace, promise more robust action, but local Christians know true peace comes from God’s intervention.
Let us stand united in prayer for our brothers and sisters enduring persecution. Join us in lifting up Nigeria, asking the Lord to bring hope, courage, and lasting freedom for His people.
