Moving forward, Americans must reclaim the right to question, debate, and dissent. The scientific method itself depends on challenge and replication, not on reverence for anointed experts. True science welcomes scrutiny; only pseudoscience demands unquestioning acceptance.

Churches must also learn from this experience. Too many religious leaders quickly capitulated to government mandates, closing their doors and abandoning their flocks when they were needed most. The pandemic revealed which shepherds would protect their sheep and which would scatter at the first sign of pressure.
