Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’ Sequel Title Announced
Mel Gibson is once again stepping into the director’s chair to bring a powerful biblical narrative to life. This summer, filming will commence for “The Resurrection of the Christ,” the much-anticipated sequel to his 2004 masterpiece, “The Passion of the Christ.”
The original film, which profoundly impacted audiences worldwide, grossed an impressive $370.8 million, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film in U.S. history. It was a testament to the enduring power of faith and the timeless story of redemption.
Gibson, a devoted Catholic, is not just a filmmaker; he is a storyteller committed to sharing the transformative message of the Gospel. He believes that the Gospels are “verifiable history,” supported by extra-biblical accounts that affirm the existence of Jesus of Nazareth.

Returning to the role of Jesus is Jim Caviezel, alongside Maia Morgenstern as Mary and Francesco De Vito as Peter. The film will be shot at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios, the same location as the original, and will feature stunning old-world settings in Italy, including Matera, Ginosa, Gravina Laterza, and Altamura.
Gibson’s commitment to authenticity and excellence is evident in his collaboration with “Braveheart” writer Randall Wallace on the script. He describes the forthcoming film as “an acid trip,” highlighting its unique approach to storytelling.
