It’s Time To Understand The Divine Roots of American Government
As we near the 250th anniversary of our nation, a concerning trend in civic literacy has emerged, revealing a profound lack of understanding about the fundamental workings of our government. Recent surveys, including one by the American Bar Association, indicate that 63% of Americans feel the public is uninformed about how our democracy functions. This gap in knowledge is alarming, as it underscores a disconnection from the responsibilities essential to safeguarding our democracy.
Further compounding this issue, a survey by the Chamber of Commerce found that 70% of Americans could not pass a basic civic literacy quiz. Hilary Crow, leading the Chamber Foundation’s The Civic Trust, remarked that this deficiency threatens the long-term health of our civic culture and, by extension, our democracy itself. Such ignorance of civic fundamentals allows for the transformation of our government into something it was never intended to be, often swayed by the manipulative designs of the political Left. Notably, the language used in these surveys can be misleading; for instance, describing America as a pure democracy when, in fact, we are a constitutional republic.
It is critical that we, as a nation, re-engage with these foundational texts and the Christian ideals that underpin them, not only to preserve our freedoms but also to ensure that our government operates as intended. This re-engagement involves not just learning but active participation in correcting the course of our nation, safeguarding the legacy and freedoms we hold dear. By understanding and embracing the divine inspiration behind our government, we can strive to maintain a society that truly reflects justice, liberty, and the providential guidance that has led our nation from its inception.
