The Spanish Evangelical Alliance (AEE) has firmly spoken against the proposal to enshrine abortion as a fundamental right in Spain’s Constitution. They uphold the biblical truth that every human life is valuable from conception, standing against what they call a “contradiction in terms.”

They add, “Every abortion is a failure of society, a painful event for the woman and those close to her.”
The Alliance underscores that its ethical stance on abortion is clear: only if the mother’s life is in grave danger or the fetus is unviable should it be considered. They charge that the current permissive abortion laws provide no real help or alternatives for expectant mothers facing difficulties.
Recent government initiatives, such as Spain’s “I want to abort” website, offer no support for women who may want to choose life or seek adoption. The AEE laments the lack of information about risks and secondary effects, and the absence of care for those uncertain or in distress.
The statement also expresses grave concern over the neglect of unborn life in public discussion, contrasting the sensitivity for victims of war to the silence surrounding the unborn who are most defenseless. They criticize the language of “reproductive rights,” claiming it obscures the reality of abortion’s consequences and the moral cost it bears.
On the issue of conscience, the Alliance stands for doctors’ freedom to object without facing unjust scrutiny. They warn that professional registries tracking objectors create an atmosphere of control, cautioning against “blacklists” that erode personal liberty and Christian conviction.
They conclude, “A society such as Spain’s, where more than 100,000 human lives are ended each year, is by no means progressive because of this.” The proliferation of abortion, the AEE insists, points to the collapse of ethics and social justice, and spells uncertainty for the future of the nation.
Christian voices must continue to advocate for the voiceless, defend the sanctity of life, and urge society to choose compassion rooted in godly values and respect for every human being.
