Members of the Scottish Parliament have said they hope the example of Church of Scotland missionary Jane Haining, who died in Auschwitz, would encourage people to confront prejudice, persecution and hatred.

The tribute honors Haining, who stayed with the children at the Jewish Mission School in Budapest even after the Nazi occupation began. She was arrested by the Gestapo for helping Jews and ultimately perished in Auschwitz.

Her faithful stand has long been remembered in Scotland as a powerful witness to Christian love and moral courage under persecution.
