Rising Hostility Toward Christians in Turkey

Published

on

Faith Facts

  • In 2024, hate crimes against Christians increased significantly in Turkey, according to a Protestant association’s report.
  • Attacks, workplace discrimination, and government pressure targeted believers, churches, and even church-run charities and workplaces.
  • Social media hostility and hate speech against Christians also surged, as did obstacles from authorities to church activities.

Christian believers in Turkey faced mounting hostility and violence in 2024, highlighting the challenges of living out their faith in a society that often fails to uphold true religious freedom.

Physical attacks, threats, and damaging words have affected not only church buildings but also the daily lives and livelihoods of many Christians striving to serve their neighbors in love and truth.

“Protestant Christian individuals or institutions experienced hate crimes or associated physical attacks due solely to their faith,” noted the human rights report.

Assaults on church buildings, unjust job loss for a Christian teacher, and denial of service from local businesses all point to an alarming disregard for the dignity and liberty of Turkey’s Christian community.

Police inaction and even pressure to inform on fellow believers reveal a troubling lack of accountability and protection for those targeted for their faith in Christ.

The reality that Christians experience discrimination, threats, and hate-fueled rhetoric—both online and in daily life—runs contrary to the biblical call to love one’s neighbor and respect all people as made in the image of God.

“We encounter speech filled with insults and profanity directed at official church social media accounts, church leaders, Christianity, Christian values and Christians in general,” the report stated.

As Christians, we must stand in prayer and solidarity with our brothers and sisters who endure persecution, calling for justice and protection of religious liberty, and always trusting that God will strengthen His Church in adversity.

Gen Z Finds Hope in Christ-Led Revival

Published

on

Faith Facts

  • A new documentary, “The Revival Generation,” explores how Generation Z is seeking faith amid unprecedented challenges.
  • Notable Christian voices, including Dr. Ben Carson and Ralph Reed, emphasize how Gen Z’s hardships and cultural pressures are leading many to turn to God.
  • Revival gatherings at universities nationwide, such as Auburn and Asbury, are leading to a renewed sense of purpose and hope among young people.

The revival among Generation Z demonstrates God’s powerful work as young people pursue healing and truth in a culture that often leaves them feeling lost and isolated.

Leaders and students alike recognize that Christianity provides the stability and hope that secular worldviews have failed to offer this generation.

“Young people are looking at some of the values they’ve been given from a very permissive generation that’s older, and they want to find some stability in their lives,” said Tim Robertson. “And obviously Christianity gives them that stability, and it gives them a rock and an anchor.”

Challenges like financial insecurity, cultural confusion, and rising mental health struggles are driving Gen Z to seek something lasting—and many are finding it in a relationship with Christ.

Efforts like UniteUS, founded by Tonya Prewett, gather college students for prayer and worship, resulting in spontaneous baptisms and deep spiritual transformation.

“I hope it will ignite something inside of them: number one, to get saved; number two, to know that they have a purpose; and number three, to make a difference where they are,” shared Prewett about the film’s impact.

Gen Z’s unique experiences have awakened a longing for truth, with many choosing to follow Jesus as the only true source of hope amid adversity and darkness.

“They’ve tasted the darkness in ways that, for other generations, it’s taken more like 40, 50, 60 years to taste that much darkness. And I think they’re just sick of it, and they want a different way. They want hope,” said Jennie Allen.

Recent data shows a significant increase in faith commitment, especially among young men, as they embrace vulnerability, accountability, and biblical principles.

Now more than ever, believers are called to pray for Generation Z, support spiritual renewal, and share the steadfast love of Christ in every community.
