  • A new OSCE report reveals anti-Christian hate crimes are often ignored in Europe.
  • Christians face threats from graffiti and vandalism to violent attacks.
  • Female converts from Islam to Christianity face unique dangers and family threats.

An extensive report by the OSCE highlights a concerning trend: hostility against Christians is too often overlooked or minimized in public discourse.

Congregations have been forced to heighten security due to growing threats aimed at the faithful.

This alarming pattern is not isolated—tensions with other religious groups frequently contribute to these attacks, and biased rhetoric only adds fuel to the fire.

“Religion-related or religion-inspired violence may also stem from the perception of Christianity as a rival, inferior or adversarial faith — often framed within violent ‘extremist’ narratives, historical grievances and geopolitical tensions,”

the report said.

Violent extremist narratives persistently target Christians, painting them as adversaries to be subdued. Converts to Christianity, especially women, endure severe risks including persecution from their own families when their faith becomes known.

“Some forms of violent ‘extremist’ rhetoric portray Christians as ‘infidels’ and ‘enemies of Islam’ who must be subdued.”

One British case from 2023 demonstrated these dangers vividly—a convert was violently attacked after his faith became known, with prosecutors saying he was viewed as

“somebody who deserved to die.”

The report also explains that crimes against Christians are frequently

“downplayed, under-reported or politically overlooked.”

The OSCE warns such hate does not occur in a vacuum, calling on everyone to respect religious freedom and dignity. Anti-Christian stereotypes in political and media narratives perpetuate intolerance and endanger believers.

“Everybody has a role to play in fostering a climate of mutual respect and understanding.”

The report urges governments and media to promote awareness of anti-Christian discrimination and to ensure just and accurate coverage that does not deepen harmful biases. Enhanced protections and faithful vigilance are needed, especially during Christian holidays.

Let us remain alert, advocate for truth, and pray for the protection of believers everywhere. Stand firm in defending faith and liberty—core values that honor God and preserve our freedom.
