Prison officials grant Bible access after prisoner advocacy effort

Published

on

A Palestinian Christian held in an Israeli prison for over two years has finally received permission to possess a Bible after a lengthy legal battle. Rami Rizq Fadayel, detained without trial, had faced repeated denials for access to God’s Word and spiritual counsel from a priest.

While the Holy Bible is being returned, authorities continue to block visits from clergy, preventing the inmate from receiving necessary sacraments and confession.

This restriction challenges the fundamental religious liberties and spiritual needs of believers separated from their faith communities.

Faith Facts

  • A Christian prisoner was denied a Bible for over two years despite repeated requests and legal interventions.
  • Israeli prison officials have granted access to Scripture but continue to prohibit visits from ordained Catholic priests.
  • Bishop William Shomali noted that Matthew 25:36 commands believers to visit those in prison as an act of service to Christ.

“He is sitting with nothing to do; the Bible would help him closer to God,” according to the inmate’s mother.

We remain steadfast in our belief that every individual has a right to the spiritual nourishment found in the Bible and the support of the Church.

Please join us in prayer for those seeking the comfort of the Gospel while facing isolation and legal hardship.
