  • Justice for Christians attacked in Jaranwala was denied as a high court refused to order a judicial inquiry.
  • Authorities claimed existing investigations were sufficient, yet reports remain secret and most suspects evaded punishment.
  • Christian legal advocates expressed disappointment at the lack of effective advocacy and accountability for victims.

Christian citizens hurt by anti-faith violence in Jaranwala have seen their hopes for justice dim after a court chose not to advance a proper judicial investigation.

The Lahore High Court declared it lacked authority to set up a new inquiry commission regarding the targeted attacks against Christians in August 2023, which remain unresolved due to failed prosecutions and hidden findings.

“Infringement of fundamental rights such as ransacking and destruction of places of worship and holy scriptures necessitated the formation of a judicial inquiry under the 1969 Ordinance to ascertain the causes of the incident and to make recommendations to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future,” a senior Christian attorney stated.

Many advocates believe more should have been done to safeguard religious minorities and secure justice for the Christian families who suffered such persecution.

Let us stand together in prayer and advocacy for our Christian brothers and sisters, asking God to bring truth, protection, and restoration for the faithful in Pakistan.
