Nigeria’s Anglicans Stand for Biblical Truth
Faith Facts
- The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has severed spiritual ties with the Church of England, rejecting its leadership and the newly appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally.
- Archbishop Henry Ndukuba stated this decision was due to Mullally’s support for same-sex marriage blessings and her appointment as the first female archbishop, which many Anglicans oppose biblically.
- Nigeria’s Anglican Church is reaffirming its commitment to uphold biblical teaching and continues to align with the Global Anglican Future Conference (Gafcon).
The appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury has intensified divisions within the worldwide Anglican Communion. Nigerian Anglicans emphasize that upholding Scriptural truth and historic Christian teaching must come before cultural trends.
Archbishop Henry Ndukuba warned that “the election is a double jeopardy.”
He explained that the decision undermines traditional beliefs about church leadership and disregards biblical marriage.
“It remains to be seen how the same person hopes to mend the already torn fabric of the Anglican Communion by the contentious same-sex marriage, which has caused enormous crisis across the Communion for over two decades,” the Church of Nigeria stated.
Standing firm with fellow believers around the globe, Nigeria’s Anglicans embrace a faith rooted in Scripture, creeds, evangelism, and holy living. The Church calls on Christians to contend for the faith as once delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3), affirming biblical standards despite growing secular pressures.
“May the Spirit of the Good Shepherd continue to guide His Church.”
Let us pray for the global church to remain bold, united, and steadfast in upholding the authority of the Bible and the Lordship of Christ in these challenging times.
