  • The Anglican Church of Nigeria has rejected Bishop Sarah Mullally’s appointment as the next Archbishop of Canterbury, citing departure from biblical teachings.
  • Nigerian leaders warn Mullally’s support for same-sex marriage deepens division within the Anglican Communion.
  • GAFCON and its allies call for renewed orthodox leadership and steadfast faithfulness to Scripture.

The Anglican Church of Nigeria issued a firm response to Sarah Mullally’s appointment, describing it as a move that threatens biblical values and unity among believers. The leadership emphasized that embracing female episcopate and same-sex marriage is incompatible with Christian doctrine.

Archbishop Henry C. Ndukuba cautioned that this decision disregards the convictions of many Anglicans who hold to the scriptural authority of male leadership and traditional marriage. GAFCON leaders, representing faithful congregations worldwide, echoed the sorrow over this direction.

“She took an oath to ‘banish and drive away all strange and erroneous doctrine contrary to God’s Word.’ And yet, far from banishing such doctrine, Bishop Mullally has repeatedly promoted unbiblical and revisionist teachings regarding marriage and sexual morality.”

Most Rev. Laurent Mbanda warned that choosing such leadership would only deepen division, urging global Anglicans to seek guidance from those loyal to Scripture. The Nigerian church pledges to remain steadfast in biblical doctrine and encourages others to “contend for the faith that was once delivered to the saints.”

As GAFCON prepares its next global assembly, faithful Christians are reminded of the call to uphold God’s truth and defend the moral foundations rooted in His Word.
