Liverpool Teacher Sets Sunday School Record
Faith Facts
- Pam Knowles began teaching Sunday School at St Anne’s Church in 1951.
- She has led 75 Christmas nativities since starting at age 13.
- Pam’s service has spanned seven decades, 16 prime ministers, and two monarchs.
Pam Knowles, now 87, has been honored by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest serving Sunday School teacher.
For 74 years she has dedicated herself to teaching children at St Anne’s Church in Liverpool, guiding generations in biblical truth.
Her devotion to St Anne’s runs deep, as she was baptized, confirmed, and married there, and even marked her 60th wedding anniversary in its sanctuary.
“My calling has and always will be to St Anne’s. I just love the church!”
Pam’s journey began when the church superintendent first asked her to help, and after passing a diocesan test, she was allowed to lead children’s groups rooted in strong biblical teaching.
She teaches timeless Bible stories like the birth of Christ, Jonah and the whale, and the garden of Eden, instilling God’s word and moral values in the hearts of young people.
“I think little children can relate to these stories and they often bring their own innocent take on the Bible, which is just wonderful.”
Pam acknowledges that children today are a bit more lively, yet she finds joy and humor in their enthusiasm as they grow in faith.
Throughout her service, she has witnessed her former students start families, carrying forward a legacy grounded in faith and Christian values.
“It doesn’t feel like I’ve been doing this for 74 years, some days I feel like I’m only just starting, as there’s new children all the time. It was great to be recognised by the Guinness Book of Records – my son has hung the certificate near the front door in the hall for visitors to see, he’s very proud!”
Pam remains full of energy and excitement, continuing her calling to shepherd the next generation for Christ.
She demonstrates the power of unwavering commitment to faith, family, and the local church.
Let us celebrate and pray for leaders like Pam who answer God’s call and inspire families with steadfast faith.
May her story encourage us to serve our communities and uphold Christian traditions for generations to come.
