  • Six Lancashire neighborhoods are set to receive £20 million each through the Pride in Place fund over ten years.
  • Church leaders celebrated both government and Church efforts to support local regeneration and youth outreach.
  • The Hope4Accrington initiative is launching to further strengthen faith-based community engagement in the area.

Lancashire’s Church of England bishops expressed strong support for a major government investment in some of the region’s most challenged communities, calling it a “vital step forward” for renewal rooted in faith and service.

Six neighborhoods, including Darwen and Blackpool, will benefit from significant long-term regeneration funding, with additional support allocated for surrounding councils.

“Many of these communities are places where people have long shown extraordinary resilience, creativity and care for one another – often in the face of economic hardship and social challenge,” the bishops said.

The bishops underscored the Church’s presence through local parishes, schools, and Christian partnerships, emphasizing their ongoing commitment as neighbors serving together for the common good.

“We are not outsiders looking in, but neighbours and fellow citizens, committed to walking alongside these communities in faith, service and love,” they stated.

They stressed that true renewal comes from restoring dignity and hope, grounded in the Christian calling to see every person flourish under God’s grace.

Recent national church funding surpassing £25 million will also bolster parish growth, youth ministry, and outreach, offering additional spiritual and practical support to Lancashire families.

Hope4Accrington, a fresh faith-led project, will expand this mission, aiming for further investment and sharing the hope found in Jesus Christ throughout Oswaldtwistle, Huncoat, Accrington, and Baxenden.

“We believe in Lancashire. We believe in the people who live here. And we believe in God who brings light into darkness, joy into sorrow and hope into every corner of our county. We are committed to being part of that story — now and in the years to come.”

This announcement reflects a steadfast dedication to faith, family, and uplifting communities through God-honoring service.
