Judge Reduces Legal Fees Sought by T.D. Jakes
Faith Facts
- Judge William S. Stickman mostly denied Bishop T.D. Jakes’ request for over $76,000 in legal fees.
- The defamation case arose from false claims made by Duane Youngblood against Bishop Jakes.
- Sanctions were imposed on Youngblood’s former attorney for submitting inaccurate court documents.
Bishop T.D. Jakes sought significant legal fees after responding to unfounded accusations, but the federal judge awarded only a portion of the amount requested.
The court found that monetary sanctions were justified, yet determined that the amount demanded by Jakes’ attorneys was excessive.
“The Court does not, however, find the amount sought by plaintiff to be a reasonable measure of a sanction in this case,” Judge Stickman noted.
Youngblood’s attorney was ordered to pay $5,000 in monthly installments, serving as a warning against future misuse of artificial intelligence in legal filings.
Judge Stickman took into account the attorney’s limited practice and financial situation while emphasizing the importance of accountability in upholding the law.
On the same weekend, Bishop Jakes briefly left a church service for a non-emergency doctor’s visit and was reported to be in good health afterward.
“All is well with Bishop T. D. Jakes,” said a spokesperson for The Potter’s House. “We’re deeply grateful for the prayers and concern expressed by so many and want to reassure everyone this was simply a moment of responsible care, not a cause for concern.”
Despite a health scare in late 2024, Bishop Jakes testified to God’s faithfulness and continues to focus on faith, family, and service with his congregation.
Our faith reminds us that truth and justice prevail when guided by biblical principles, and families flourish under Christian leadership. Let us continue to pray for the health and strength of our pastors and church leaders as they serve their communities, trusting God’s goodness through every trial.
