At the All India Congress on Church in Mission (AICOCIM), Rev. Dr. Jayakumar Christian challenged believers to see God’s purpose for the Church existing and ministering among the marginalized.
He urged Christians in India to resist discouragement and instead discern God’s presence and calling in challenging circumstances.
“Our faith chooses powerlessness over power,” he reminded attendees, citing Christ’s example of sacrificial love and surrender as the Church’s model.
Christian warned against pursuing worldly status or influence, noting that “movements are always birthed in the margins,” echoing how God’s work has often begun among the least powerful.
He highlighted the importance of living in true solidarity with the poor and suffering, rather than seeing ministry as a service done for others.
“If our faith makes sense to the weakest link in the chain, then it will make sense to all of India,” he declared, calling the gospel’s credibility to rest on its relevance to the hurting and fearful.
The Church’s mission, Christian said, is to reveal God’s heart for the broken, to stand against injustice, and to reflect a power rooted in humility and truth.
He challenged believers to be courageous in addressing suffering, to depend on the Holy Spirit, and to speak truth even when pressure mounts to remain silent.
