Homeless Man’s Brave Rescue Inspires City

The Roberts family experienced a moment of incredible providence when an unexpected hero intervened during their move downtown.
As young Honeretta, who has autism, dashed toward the dangerous Main Street Bridge, her grandmother panicked and called out for help.
“She elopes and she thinks it’s funny,” said her mother, Faith Roberts.
Weldon, who is currently homeless and supported by the NEW Community Shelter, saw the danger and acted immediately, reaching the girl just in time.
“He didn’t think about himself. He thought about her,” said Tynetta Johnson, the girl’s grandmother.
Despite heartfelt offers of gratitude from the family, Weldon simply replied, “I just do my best, and I hope in anybody’s situation like that somebody would do the same.”
This act of selfless bravery is a reminder of God’s commandment to love our neighbors and serve others regardless of our own circumstances.
