God’s Truth Prevails as Fallen Leaders Spark Biblical Accountability and Hope for Renewal
Faith Facts
- Pastor Francis Chan apologizes after biblical conviction over careless words and past endorsements of scandal-plagued leaders like Mike Bickle.
- Church elders affirm Chan’s prior due diligence while prioritizing abuse victim protection above institutional reputations.
- Scripture calls for exposing sin publicly to safeguard believers from deception in ministry.
Pastor Francis Chan, through his Crazy Love ministry, publicly repented for endorsements that hurt the Body of Christ when leaders fell into immorality, false prophecy, and greed.
Over four decades, he witnessed hundreds of leaders fail, each revelation feeling like a kick in the stomach as hidden sins surfaced.
Each time, it feels like a kick in the stomach,
Chan wrote.
Years of immorality are uncovered, false prophesies are exposed, or greed is brought to light.
Chan clarified he no longer endorses unrepentant figures like IHOPKC founder Mike Bickle, whose predatory abuse of minors and others was detailed in a 68-page investigation.
He regrets slow responses rooted in pride or self-preservation, aiming instead to speak with grace.
For the sake of clarity, please know that of course I do not continue to endorse people like Mike Bickle who have been caught in unrepentant immorality,
Chan stated.
I know that my endorsements of leaders who have later fallen have added to the hurt and heartbreak experienced by the Body, and for this, I sincerely apologize.
Before partnering, Chan vetted Bickle through his wife, leaders, and pastors, finding consistent praise for his character until 2023 allegations emerged.
We Are Church elders echoed the apology, noting Chan’s influence unintentionally bolstered untrustworthy men while committing to confront abuse boldly.
Friends like Sam Storms also repented after direct victim accounts, confronting Bickle alongside Chan, who refused accountability.
In this age of moral compromise, let us pray fervently for godly discernment, swift repentance, and pure leadership that honors Christ, family values, and eternal truth.
