Gafcon, representing many Anglicans, has officially ended communion with the Archbishop of Canterbury, emphasizing faithfulness to scriptural authority. The movement has called for a biblically centered structure, inviting others to join in upholding timeless Christian teachings.
Most Rev. Laurent Mbanda of Rwanda explained that this stand comes after years of concern over departures from biblical morals.
“Today, that future has arrived,” declared Mbanda, citing the need for reform grounded in the Holy Bible.
He stated that Gafcon cannot remain connected with those who promote ideas contrary to Scripture, reaffirming the supremacy of God’s Word as the foundation of the church.
Membership in Gafcon’s Global Anglican Communion requires assent to the Jerusalem Declaration of 2008, planting the movement firmly on Reformation standards.
“As I declared in my statement two weeks ago, ‘the reset of our beloved Communion is now uniquely in the hands of Gafcon, and we are ready to take the lead,’” Mbanda said.
