France’s Adult Baptisms Surge as Easter Revival Grows
Faith Facts
- France is set to see a record number of adult baptisms this Easter.
- Many of the new candidates are young adults and first-time seekers.
- Clergy say growing interest in baptism is continuing even close to Holy Week.
A spiritual awakening is taking place across France as the nation prepares to welcome a record-breaking 21,386 adults into the Catholic Church this Holy Saturday. This surge far exceeds traditional annual averages of 5,000, signaling a strong hunger for the Gospel among people seeking truth in a secular world.
The demographic shift is particularly striking, with 82% of candidates under the age of 40 and many coming from secular or atheist backgrounds. These new believers cite personal spiritual experiences, the pursuit of biblical truth, and the testimonies of faithful friends as primary catalysts for their conversion.
Local clergy report that even as Easter approaches, more individuals are requesting baptism after every mass. This influx provides an opportunity for the Church to strengthen its mission and disciple a new generation of faithful witnesses.
Even so close to Easter, Thibaud says he has more people requesting baptism after every mass.
As these new believers prepare for their lifelong journey with Christ, the Church is focused on providing the discipleship tools needed to navigate the spiritual challenges ahead. The hope is that this renewed interest will continue to spread and deepen across France.
