A recent court decision has barred the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission from forcing the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops to accommodate abortion-related procedures in the workplace.
The injunction also stops the EEOC from investigating or penalizing Catholic institutions for acting in accordance with their faith on abortion, surrogacy, or in vitro fertilization.
The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, representing the bishops, argued these mandates conflicted with life-affirming workplace policies rooted in Christian principles.
Judge David Joseph’s ruling replaces a previous, narrower order and offers greater freedom for faith-based employers to follow Biblical teaching without government interference.
Daniel Blomberg of the Becket Fund described the decision as securing formal protection for religious organizations to uphold pro-life convictions in their policies.
“This order memorializes the agreement and gives the plaintiffs formal legal protection,” Blomberg stated.
The legal fight continues, with appeals pending on abortion and related mandates before higher courts.
