Faithful Gather for Unique Beachside Worship Experience
This summer, the vibrant shores of Long Island, New York, have become more than just a place for sun and surf; they’ve transformed into a sanctuary where faith and community come together in a unique celebration of the Good Word. Beach Catholic, an inspiring initiative comprising three parishes, has been hosting Sunday Mass by the sea, drawing the faithful from near and far to partake in this extraordinary experience.
Since its inception in 2014, this remarkable gathering has attracted over 1,000 attendees each week, with estimates suggesting that more than 50,000 people have participated over the past decade. Jordan Bernhardi, director of operations for Beach Catholic, shared the profound impact of this public witness of faith.
“There is something so powerful about hundreds of Catholics, kneeling before their King and receiving Him in the Eucharist, at the beach,” Bernhardi remarked.
In a world that seems to drift further from its spiritual moorings, initiatives like Beach Catholic serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder of our sacred duty to spread the message of Christ beyond the confines of traditional church walls. As Bernhardi aptly noted, “We believe that the answer is to bring Him out.”
The Masses, celebrated across three picturesque beaches and parishes—St. Ignatius Martyr, St. Mary of The Isle, and Our Lady of The Miraculous Medal—embody the essence of a missionary church. Fr. Brian Barr, pastor of Beach Catholic, emphasized the importance of living one’s faith openly and without fear.
“When you were a kid, do you remember being uneasy or embarrassed about expressing your faith in front of others? I do. I think most people do,” Fr. Barr reflected.
“But for whatever reason, many of us are. Bringing the Eucharist, which is our most important prayer, to the streets (and the beach), challenges that fear in a great way.”
This bold expression of faith has not only touched the lives of regular attendees but also those who happen upon the service by chance. Tim Murphy, a dedicated participant since the beginning, shared how the beach Mass has been transformative for him and his family.
“Every week we still make the trip to come down and it’s worth the trip if you have never been,” Murphy said.
“My wife and I actually met here because of the beach Mass, and so my son would not be born without the beach Mass.”
For many, like Dee Santos, the experience is a weekly highlight, bringing together a diverse congregation in a setting that showcases God’s natural beauty.
“What I love is, first of all, we have this beautiful gift from God of the beach, and we get to celebrate His gifts to us in His presence on the beach,” Santos expressed.
“The other piece of it that’s so wonderful is it brings people in who maybe wouldn’t even see us worshipping.”
In a society often divided by ideology and belief, the beach Mass stands as a testament to the unifying power of faith, family, and freedom. It invites all to pause, reflect, and join in a celebration that transcends the ordinary, reminding us of the enduring strength found in community and shared values. As the waves gently lap the shore, so too does the spirit of unity and devotion wash over all who gather, reaffirming the timeless truths of our Christian faith.

LaBeouf Chokes Up on Jesus Amid Assault Charges
Faith Facts
- Shia LaBeouf teared up envisioning Jesus, declaring he’d silently kiss His feet in reverence.
- Amid battery charges, he invoked Catholicism, confessing his actions were wrong and hurtful.
- His conversion stemmed from suicidal despair, redeemed through monastery life for Saint Padre Pio role.
Actor Shia LaBeouf shared raw emotions in a YouTube interview with Andrew Callaghan, blending spiritual reflections with fallout from his New Orleans arrest.
The 39-year-old faces misdemeanor battery charges from a February 17 Mardi Gras clash, where police video captured him shirtless, shoving one man and striking another’s face.
Local performer Jeffrey Klein alleged LaBeouf punched him repeatedly, threatened his life, and yelled slurs about homosexuals.
LaBeouf turned himself in after a new warrant, following his initial hospital visit for injuries.
“I was drunk, and then I felt infringed upon in terms of my proximity.”
“But I wasn’t in my right mind, and so it’s on me.”
“I don’t want to hurt nobody’s feelings. That’s what I mean [when I say] I’m a Catholic. I’m wrong for what I did.”
This echoes his 2017 drunkenness arrest, underscoring a pattern broken by faith.
In 2022, LaBeouf revealed God’s pull from atheism through shame-filled despair and Padre Pio preparation.
“I had a gun on the table. I was out of here.”
“I know now that God was using my ego to draw me to Him, drawing me away from worldly desires.”
True repentance reflects Christ’s transformative grace, calling us to uphold Biblical morality over cultural chaos.
Pray for LaBeouf’s steadfast walk in faith, family values, and freedom in Christ—share this to inspire redemption.

Labour Axes Church Repair Funds, Threatening Scottish Heritage
Faith Facts
- Scottish Christian leaders warn abrupt end of LPWGS severely hampers church building maintenance.
- Labour government halts scheme, slashes budget for replacement, adding new tax burdens.
- Historic churches, vital community hubs for outreach and aid, face closures amid financial strain.
Christian leaders in Scotland decry the sudden termination of the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme, established in 2001 to exempt historic churches from VAT on repairs.
This Labour decision leaves churches struggling to fix roofs, heating systems, and combat damp, endangering structures central to faith and community life.
The National Churches Trust highlights that the replacement Places of Worship Renewal Fund lacks readiness, shares the reduced budget, and imposes prior nonexistent taxes.
Church of Scotland Moderator Rt Rev Rosie Frew notes over 1,100 listed properties at risk, with some already sold due to demographics and costs.
“We were surprised to learn, via a press release, that LPWGS is being closed at the end of the month and very disappointed that this decision was taken without any formal consultation with religious denominations in Scotland.”
“Listed churches are not simply about curating cultural architecture, they are important centres for the whole community. They are living, breathing spaces at the heart of communities, hosting social action including foodbanks, activities for schools, young people and the elderly.”
Rt Rev John Keenan warns of massive impacts on Catholic dioceses, losing over £100,000 annually in one alone for maintenance.
In declining areas, churches offer solidarity, consolation, and hope amid depopulation.
As faithful stewards of God’s sacred spaces that nurture families and freedoms, pray for divine wisdom to restore vital support and urge leaders to honor our Christian heritage through patriotic action.
