Equipping Children to Stand Firm in Faith
Faith Facts
- Christian families must prepare children to face secular influences in schools and culture.
- Dr. Jeff Myers urges parents to teach children to take every thought captive to Christ and be alert to deceptive philosophies.
- Intentional conversations and a biblical worldview help protect kids from harmful ideologies.
As schools reopen, many Christian parents are concerned about the messages their children encounter, both inside and outside the classroom. The culture around us often promotes values that conflict with biblical truth, making it vital that families stay rooted in faith.
Dr. Jeff Myers, president of Summit Ministries and co-author of “Raising Gender Confident Kids,” encourages parents to recognize the spiritual challenges facing young people. He reminds us that even homeschool and Christian-educated children are impacted by the broader culture.
“They are living in a culture that fights against your values,” Myers explained, stressing the importance of parental involvement.
He highlights the need to anchor children in a Christian worldview, as many educators embrace views contrary to our faith. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 10:5, Myers exhorts families to “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
“We need to discover what God’s truth is and take every thought captive,” Myers said, underscoring the importance of dignity and truth for every child created by God.
Alarmingly, studies show 70% of young adults drift from biblical teachings after leaving home. Myers believes it is crucial that parents understand the lies behind modern ideologies to shield their children.
He warned that gender ideology is among the most prominent threats youth face, noting its prevalence even in communities with strong Christian values. No family is immune, and vigilance is necessary.
Myers shared stories of faithful families shaken by these challenges but insists that practical conversations, guided by Scripture, are a powerful tool for parents. Courage to address these topics and reaffirm biblical truth strengthens children to stand firm.
Now is the time for parents to lead their families in faith, trusting the wisdom of God’s Word and fostering open dialogue that equips children to discern truth from deception. Take up the mantle, invest in God-honoring conversations with your kids, and rest in the assurance that faith and freedom flourish when rooted in Christ.
