Five Churches of Christ congregations in El Salvador partner with Texas volunteers to construct sturdy homes for families in need, embodying Christian love and protection.
Project Nehemiah, inspired by the biblical leader who rebuilt Jerusalem’s walls, pools offerings to provide shelter amid economic hardship, transforming empty lots into safe havens for God’s people.
“There was sadness in knowing that our brothers and sisters need a physical home, and many might never be able to build one,” Gámez said.
“We wanted them to feel God’s protection,” he said.
“One sister cried when she received her keys and said she had never had keys before. Now she has keys to open her own front door — a gift from the Lord.”
“It also showed me that, even with a language barrier, people are people and desire the same basic things in life.”
