Church leaders around the globe are centering their Easter messages on the suffering caused by international conflicts, urging believers to find strength in Christ.

Archbishop Sarah Mullally emphasized that the Gospel is a living reality providing comfort to those enduring deep hardship across the Middle East, Ukraine, and Sudan.

“We proclaim it in a world marked by deep suffering and conflict.”

The Bishop of Cyprus and the Gulf, Sean Semple, noted that the shadow of war has deeply wounded spiritual life and traditional observances in the Holy Land.

He lamented the cancellation of sacred events in Jerusalem, describing the closures as spiritual wounds for both residents and pilgrims.

“Suffering and pain are penultimate; ultimate is the loving embrace of God in glory.”

The Jerusalem Patriarchs reminded the faithful that while hostilities cause economic and physical destruction, the core of the Resurrection is Christ’s victory over the grave.

They called on Christians to remain steadfast in prayer for those oppressed by violence and hardship.

As we reflect on the victory of Christ, let us continue to pray for peace and stand firm in our biblical calling to serve those in need.
