Christian Leaders Respond to Planned Public Execution of Fort Hood Shooter
Faith Facts
- Nidal Hasan was convicted of murdering 13 people and wounding more than 30 others in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting.
- The Department of Defense has announced that Hasan will be executed by firing squad via public livestream.
- Prominent Christian leaders including Franklin Graham and Robert Jeffress have publicly responded to the decision.
Christian leaders across the nation are voicing their reactions to the Defense Department’s announcement that convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will face execution by firing squad in a public livestream.
The announcement has reignited debate over justice, punishment, and the moral questions surrounding capital punishment in a nation founded on Judeo-Christian principles.
“The Bible teaches that the government has the authority to bear the sword for justice,” Franklin Graham stated. “This man took innocent lives in an act of terror, and the consequences must be carried out.”
“We must always seek justice while remembering mercy belongs to God alone,” Robert Jeffress added. “The families of the victims have waited years for this moment, and the rule of law must be upheld.”
