Christian Film Counters Youth Gangs in Barbados
Faith Facts
- Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is using film ministry in Barbados to address youth violence.
- The movie “Go Africa: Skyboy and the Woman of Honor” connects Barbadian youth to testimonies of transformation from Nigeria.
- Christian leaders highlight the urgent need for moral guidance and spiritual foundation among the nation’s young people.
YWAM recently screened a faith-based film at the island’s only drive-in theatre, seeking to steer local youth away from gang culture by sharing redemptive stories rooted in Christian truth.
The film’s message encourages youth to reject violence and embrace their God-given purpose found in Christ, reflecting the importance of faith for rebuilding lives.
Jack MacCall, YWAM’s Barbados leader, explained that the film was chosen to encourage young people toward hope and away from paths of destruction.
“Seeing the youth of Barbados get involved in violence and killing one another is something that breaks my heart personally,” MacCall told the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
He further expressed his commitment to protecting the next generation through Christ-centered outreach.
“Now that I am a father to a two-year-old, I want to do everything I can to ensure he — and all our children — have a better future than that,” he said.
The movie, directed by David L. Cunningham and inspired by YWAM’s real ministry work in Nigeria, shares how faith in Jesus offers forgiveness and new possibilities for former militants and at-risk youth.
YWAM’s mission in Barbados continues in response to lasting concerns about gangs and criminal influence among the island’s young people.
Reports confirm that criminal groups target vulnerable youth, while church leaders call for moral teaching and stronger family values as solutions grounded in Biblical principles.
“The statistics are really the faces and futures of too many of our sons, daughters and neighbors,” the Barbados Today editorial said.
Christian organizations and pastors are working together to restore hope and point young people back to God’s truth.
They remind believers of the power of faith, strong families, and freedom through Christ to transform communities.
Let us pray for Barbados’ youth and support ministries that champion faith, family, and freedom in the face of rising dangers.
