Christian Charity Warns of U.K. Energy Crisis

Faith Facts

  • Energy price increases risk pushing struggling families deeper into poverty, as warned by a Christian charity.
  • Ofgem will raise the energy price cap by 2% beginning October 1, 2025, affecting millions of households.
  • Christians Against Poverty urges both government action and Christian compassion to address this crisis.

The approach of winter brings renewed challenges for Britain’s most vulnerable households, as rising energy costs threaten the foundation of family well-being. Christians Against Poverty (CAP) emphasizes that these increases jeopardize the ability of many to keep their homes warm and provide for their loved ones.

Ofgem’s price cap increase means higher bills for everyday families, with those on low incomes feeling the greatest weight. The expansion of the warm home discount, though helpful, does not fully offset the financial strain on Christian families and neighbors in need.

“The reality for the thousands of people we serve each year remains desperate, and many millions across the U.K. are already in crisis, unable to afford basic essentials like keeping their homes warm and the lights on,” said CAP CEO Stewart McCulloch.

These burdens lead not only to financial stress but also despair, as debt and hardship rob people of hope and dignity. National polling reveals that nearly a quarter of adults have reduced home heating, while others have gone without entirely.

McCulloch underscores the urgent need for both immediate relief and long-term reform, calling for an Essentials Guarantee to ensure no family must choose between heating and eating. Christians are called to advocate for policies that affirm the inherent worth of every individual and to support community efforts reflecting Christ’s love and care.

As believers, we are reminded that meeting basic needs honors God’s command to love our neighbors. Let us pray for wisdom among policymakers, generosity in our churches, and practical steps to serve households facing hardship.

The Christmas Shine Your Light campaign exceeded outreach plans, proclaiming the gospel to millions across the British Isles through carol services, open-air preaching, and prison broadcasts.

Spearheaded by National Day of Prayer and Worship, success stemmed from a 72-hour continuous online prayer meeting December 12-14, embodying Biblical power of united intercession.

Winchester Cathedral reported packed festive events brimming with worshippers, reflecting renewed hunger for Christ’s light amid cultural challenges.

“We have been deeply humbled and genuinely overwhelmed by the extraordinary response from churches across these Isles.”

“From England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to communities across Ireland, believers stepped forward with incredible faith and unity.”

“The level of participation, scale and impact far exceeded anything we anticipated, and we give all the glory to God.”

“In 2025, our vision was to mobilise 200,000 Christians to reach two million people during the Christmas season.”

“But after analysing 1,832 outreach events, we are thrilled to report that 308,730 Christians reached an astonishing 5,531,871 people – a 207% increase on 2024.”

“Behind every number is a story.”

Pastor Jonathan Oloyede praised ordinary believers boldly sharing faith as community lights, fulfilling Matthew 5:16.

As patriots grounded in Scripture, let us sustain this momentum through prayer and evangelism, fortifying faith, family, and freedom in 2025.

  • Poor Christian teen abducted, forced to convert to Islam and marry Muslim man.
  • Endured 3.5 years of beatings, isolation, and religious insults while pregnant.
  • Escaped with daughter but faces death threats; CLAAS fights for her justice.

Mishal, born into a humble Christian family in Pakistan, never attended school due to poverty.

Working at a salon, she rejected advances from Ali Haider, affirming her unwavering Christian faith and family values.

Tricked into signing conversion papers, she was renamed Fatima, slapped for protesting, and abducted at gunpoint from her home.

Locked away, beaten for her beliefs, and called degrading names, she gave birth to daughter Ayat amid ongoing violence.

In a drug-fueled rage, Ali assaulted her and hurled the infant; neighbors aided her dramatic rooftop escape.

Police rescued them and filed an FIR, yet threats persist as Ali stalks her street.

Her deep scars include panic and sleeplessness, but her faith, courage, and maternal love remain unbroken.

Today, she seeks safety to raise her child in Christian freedom, protected from persecution.

Stand with persecuted believers: pray for Mishal’s court victory and support ministries defending faith, family, and liberty.
