Christian Aid has sounded a somber alarm about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stressing the urgency of unimpeded aid and the restoration of peace. Over 269 people, including at least 112 children, have tragically lost their lives due to hunger in the region.

The UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification officially identified a famine in Gaza City, stating the dire conditions were caused by human action.

“After 22 months of relentless conflict, over half a million people in the Gaza Strip are facing catastrophic conditions, characterised by starvation, destitution and death.”

Israel’s Prime Minister maintains, “Israel does not have a policy of starvation.”

Katie Roxburgh, Christian Aid’s Programme Manager, highlighted the physical agony endured by families, recounting stories of people surviving on meager rations and worsening health.

“The people of Gaza already knew that they were living through a famine,” Roxburgh said.

“Our colleagues describe the physical pain of hunger after months of surviving on a single small bowl of lentil soup each day.”

She called for urgent action, urging for the free flow of humanitarian aid and the cessation of hostilities. Believers are encouraged by Christian Aid to join together in fasting and prayer, reflecting Christ’s compassion for the suffering.

Let us remain steadfast in our prayers and stand united in support for those facing trials, remembering that our faith calls us to lift up the vulnerable and act as instruments of God’s mercy and provision in a troubled world.
