Brazil Court Clears Student in Free Speech Victory

Brazilian veterinary student Isadora Borges has seen her legal nightmare end after a historic court ruling favored freedom of expression. The Federal Regional Court of the Fifth Region dismissed criminal charges brought against her for stating biological realities online.
The court determined that Borges’ comments did not constitute threats or incitement and lacked criminal intent. This victory comes years after a politician reported her for asserting that DNA determines gender and males cannot become females.
“The court’s decision brings me great relief and hope that free speech will be protected in Brazil,” Borges said.
“The truth matters. Stating biological facts in a post should never result in prison time.”
Advocates for religious liberty warn that these prosecutions serve to silence those who hold traditional values. Since 2019, Brazil has increasingly equated basic moral convictions with discrimination.
This puts faithful Christians at risk of imprisonment.
We must remain vigilant in prayer for our brothers and sisters abroad who face judicial persecution for their convictions. No person should be threatened with prison for speaking the truth about the created order.
