Biblical Literacy Crisis Hits Churchgoers
Faith Facts
- Around two-thirds of churchgoers failed a biblical literacy quiz according to Lifeway Research
- The study reveals widespread gaps in basic Scripture knowledge among regular church attendees
- Christian leaders are calling for renewed emphasis on biblical teaching in local congregations
Around two-thirds of churchgoers have a poor understanding of the Bible and failed a biblical literacy quiz, according to a report released Tuesday by Lifeway Research.
The findings underscore a troubling trend that threatens the spiritual health of American congregations.
“This is not just about knowledge—it’s about whether believers are truly being transformed by the Word of God,” said Lifeway Research leadership.
Churches across the nation are now being urged to strengthen their commitment to teaching the full counsel of Scripture.
