Believers Face Growing Threats to Women’s Safety in Public Spaces
Faith Facts
- New National Construction Code allows replacing up to half of single-sex toilets with all-gender facilities in public buildings like schools and sports venues.
- ACL CEO Michelle Pearse warns this risks safety for sexual violence survivors, young girls, mothers, and older women lacking private spaces.
- In ACT, girls are dropping sports due to shared changing rooms with men, validating privacy concerns.
Australia’s updated building rules mandate states to adopt or reject changes by May 1 that diminish dedicated women’s toilets, sparking outcry from the Australian Christian Lobby.
These shifts challenge God’s design for protecting family dignity and safety in public spaces, urging Christian action to preserve biblical values of modesty and security.
“Women and girls deserve safe, private spaces in public buildings,” said Pearse.
“Removing or reducing women’s toilets puts their safety and dignity at risk.”
“The government cannot say it opposes forced all-gender toilets in one policy and then allow it to happen through the building code,” Pearse said.
“We’ve raised concerns that reducing the number of single-sex facilities risks compromising privacy and safety for women and girls – and we’ve already been proven right.”
Join the ACL’s fight to opt out of these ungodly mandates—pray for NSW leaders to uphold family protections and freedom rooted in Scripture.
