Bear Grylls and the Importance of Church

Faith Facts

  • Bear Grylls claims faith has nothing to do with church, calling organised religion a distortion of Jesus’s message.
  • The Church is the God-ordained community through which we know about Jesus and carry out His teachings.
  • Biblical faith connects believers within the body of Christ, not as isolated individuals, but as a unified spiritual family.

Bear Grylls recently argued that faith does not require church participation and that religion distorts the heart of Christ’s message. This perspective misses the vital role church plays in preserving the gospel and nurturing Christian community.

Without the Church, believers would lack the historical foundation to know Jesus’s teachings and message, which have been faithfully preserved through the generations.

Scripture makes clear that salvation draws us out of isolation and into God’s family, united in purpose and worship.

“Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles…were at that time separated from Christ….But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near in the blood of Christ….So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” (Ephesians 2:11-22)

Church is not merely tradition or rule, but the living body of Christ where believers find support, accountability, and strength in their daily walk with God. Our freedom as Christians is fulfilled when lived out in fellowship and service, as designed by our Creator.

Stand firm in the truth of God’s word and cherish the Church as a vital part of your Christian walk. Honor Christ by valuing the fellowship of believers and building one another up in faith, hope, and love.
