Learning Vital Lessons from Church Scandals
Faith Facts
- The Bible stresses truth and transparency, even regarding leaders’ failures.
- Christian leadership should emphasize character over showmanship or gifting.
- Covering up sin undermines the church’s credibility and mission.
Recent allegations against Shawn Bolz remind believers that sin and failure, even among leaders, must be confronted with gospel clarity and conviction.
Our faith teaches us to pursue righteousness as a community, rather than protecting images at the expense of biblical truth.
“God doesn’t do cover-ups.”
The Scriptures record even the greatest biblical leaders’ faults, from King David’s grave errors to Peter’s public rebuke and Paul’s warnings about false shepherds.
Christ’s church flourishes when truth is honored above reputation, reflecting God’s standard of open confession and accountability.
The temptation to prize spiritual gifts over steady, holy character has led to heartbreak and scandal, showing that charisma without Christlike conduct brings danger to the flock.
The New Testament instructs that leaders in the body of Christ must be examples, known more for their integrity than their talents, held to a higher standard of behavior and humility.
It is vital for the church to foster environments where truth is upheld and character is the mark of leadership, so the Gospel shines undimmed by human failings.
Let us recommit to creating a church culture where accountability, grace, and truth safeguard the well-being of all, guarding our witness in a fallen world.

Nurse Stands Firm for Biological Reality
Faith Facts
- Bethany Hutchison and colleagues faced pressure for upholding biological reality in the workplace.
- The Christian Legal Centre provided crucial legal support throughout their ordeal.
- A tribunal confirmed their right to a safe and dignified environment, affirming UK law.
Bethany Hutchison, leading the Darlington Nursing Union, shared her experience defending women’s dignity at the She Leads the Nations Global Summit in Washington DC. She met with US politicians to highlight their struggle for freedom and truth in the UK.
In her speech, she addressed the foundational truth that men and women are distinct, noting its increasing controversy in today’s society.
Hutchison described the challenges within the NHS, which, she said, often put ideology above biological truths and women’s safety.
“Everything began when a biological male employee, identifying as a woman, was, without warning or consultation, granted access to the female changing room … the private place where women undress, store their belongings, and prepare for long shifts.”
She testified that some staff suffered trauma, including panic attacks recalling earlier abuses, after sharing changing spaces with a biological male.
Leadership pressured the nurses to accept the situation in the name of inclusivity, offering only unsuitable alternatives for their privacy and safety.
Supported by the Christian Legal Centre, the nurses pursued justice and, in January, won their legal case.
“The tribunal ruled in our favour … They confirmed that the NHS Trust had broken UK law by forcing women to share a changing room with a male colleague.”
Hutchison emphasized this victory was not only for British women but for truth and common sense everywhere.
“This is not a British problem. It is a Western problem. It is a cultural problem. It is a truth problem.”
Andrea Williams, CEO of the Christian Legal Centre, also spoke at the event, warning that Christian foundations in law and freedom are under threat as believers face increasing sanctions for expressing faith-based views.
Standing for God-given design and upholding the dignity of women is a call rooted in biblical truth. Let us pray for courage and wisdom as believers defend faith, family, and freedom in societies worldwide.

Trust Shapes Christian Generosity in UK
Faith Facts
- Stewardship’s new report centers trust as key to Christian giving.
- Average Christian giving has slightly declined, yet committed givers increased their support this year.
- The gap between current giving and biblical tithing remains significant among UK Christians.
The latest Stewardship report highlights trust as central in inspiring generosity within the Christian community. The study finds that how believers perceive the integrity, transparency, and accountability of churches and ministries powerfully influences their willingness to give.
“When we give, we place trust in others to steward what God has entrusted to us. When that trust is strong, generosity becomes bold and joyful; when it is fragile, giving can falter.”
Younger Christians are more receptive to teaching about generosity and respond positively to appeals, while a significant number still give from personal savings despite economic pressures. The report notes that gratitude and joy in giving are closely linked to trust in the organization receiving the gifts.
“On average, £91 ($125) or 3.7% per month is given to Christian causes and a further £25 ($34) or 1% to secular causes. 4.7% of the average Christian income equates to £116 ($159) per month.”
Committed Christians, who make up a substantial part of the giving landscape, have increased their average monthly giving to £326 ($447), showing deep dedication despite a small drop in the proportion of income given. Distinct donor personas drive giving patterns, ranging from impact-driven givers who value results, to theology-driven donors motivated by biblical principles.
The report clearly sees a gap between actual giving and the biblical call to tithe, especially if every Christian were to dedicate 10% of their income, which would significantly increase resources for ministry and charitable work.
Christian stewardship remains a calling to faithful generosity, trusting God and one another as we seek to further His Kingdom. We encourage every believer to prayerfully consider how they can cultivate greater trust and joy in their giving.
