The reprieve came after weeks of uncertainty for the pastor and his congregation.

“We are grateful for the stay and continue to pray for a permanent solution,” the pastor’s attorney stated.

Supporters gathered outside the detention facility to pray for the pastor’s release and for wisdom for immigration officials.

Church members have been fasting and holding nightly prayer vigils since the detention began.

Immigration enforcement advocates stress that border security and legal immigration processes must be upheld for the sake of national sovereignty.

Seventy-three years ago a handful of Caribbean believers arrived in Britain carrying little more than their Bibles and a determination to worship freely. They quickly discovered that many existing congregations offered them no real welcome.

Oliver and Rose Lyseight responded by opening their home and their hearts. On 20 September 1953 they gathered a small group and began the first services of what would become a thriving church rooted in Scripture and Caribbean warmth.

Lee Brickley, chronicling their story, notes that the Lyseights did far more than secure a building. They created a spiritual family where new arrivals could find both practical help and sound doctrine.

“They didn’t just find a place in British society; they helped reshape the British Church.”

From those modest beginnings, leaders were raised, missionaries were sent, and congregations multiplied. The movement planted by seven faithful Caribbean Christians now stands as a living testimony to God’s providence and the power of the gospel across cultures.
