Tech Giants Adjust AI for Teen Protection

Faith Facts

  • Meta and OpenAI are implementing safety updates to protect teens using their chatbots.
  • Both companies are introducing features to give parents more control and restrict harmful conversations.
  • New safeguards aim to prevent chatbots from engaging in discussions on sensitive topics with young users.

Meta and OpenAI are taking action to ensure their chatbots address sensitive topics carefully, especially those that affect teenagers. OpenAI is updating ChatGPT to make it easier for users to reach emergency services and experts during times of crisis, while also increasing protections specifically for teens.

“Our reasoning models — like GPT‑5-thinking and o3 — are built to spend more time thinking for longer and reasoning through context before answering,” said an OpenAI representative.

OpenAI is providing more options for families to make decisions about how their teens use ChatGPT, including parental account linking and stronger settings for age-appropriate content. The company has committed to notifying parents if their teenager is in acute distress during a chat session.

Meta, which oversees platforms like Facebook and Instagram, is working to prevent its chatbots from discussing issues like suicide and eating disorders with teenagers and will instead guide them toward professional assistance. Stephanie Otway, a Meta spokesperson, stated, “As we continue to refine our systems, we’re adding more guardrails as an extra precaution — including training our AIs not to engage with teens on these topics, but to guide them to expert resources, and limiting teen access to a select group of AI characters for now.”

These updates come amid concerns after incidents where teens reportedly faced harm after interacting with chatbots. Legal actions have highlighted the tragic consequences, reinforcing the need for robust safety measures rooted in Christian compassion for the vulnerable and a commitment to family well-being.

Both companies have recognized the importance of strengthening their safeguards, aiming to create technology that upholds morality, family values, and the protection of children in a rapidly changing digital world.

  • Christian communities in France are reviving old monasteries and convents for ministry and education.
  • Personal stories of perseverance underscored the importance of prayer, fellowship, and God’s provision.

Before dawn in Chartres, France, weary travelers navigated the medieval city’s sidewalk detours while seeking their rideshare to the airport. Street repairs and roadblocks made the journey difficult, but the sense of partnership and prayer offered encouragement.

“Hello, I am your driver,” the driver assured in a message, confirming arrival before a tense wait ended with successful pickup.

A friend’s suggestion led to this journey, focusing on churches restoring abandoned monasteries and spreading Christian outreach across France. Each visit testified to the persistence and hope within God’s family, despite language barriers and physical setbacks.

Acts of kindness from locals helped the travelers overcome obstacles, reminding them of how God provides through others. Personal challenges, such as illness and injury, were met with gratitude and faith that God opens doors and sustains His children during trials.

This trip showcased believers in France dedicating renewed spaces for ministry and learning. Even amidst the exhaustion of travel, the reassurance of God’s guidance brought comfort and strength.

“Please stay put,” the traveler requested, trusting language and intentions would be understood in a foreign land.

In every challenge, faith, prayer, and Christian fellowship reminded these travelers—and readers—how God works through perseverance and trust.
